Check before wiring
- Per-pin I/O limit is ~82 mA — drawing more browns out the system (datasheet, I/O header pinout).
- Do not power from a computer USB port; a 2–3 A / 5 V USB-C supply is required.
- All I/O defaults to a 90 kΩ pull-down at boot except the I2C pins, which pull up to 3.3 V — override via device-tree overlay.
- The heat sink runs hot enough to burn during operation, with or without the fan.

- All header I/O is 3.3 V logic with programmable 40–255 Ω impedance and a ~82 mA per-pin maximum — exceeding it can brown out the system.
- Every I/O pin defaults to a 90 kΩ pull-down inside the i.MX 8M at boot, except the I2C pins, which pull up to 3.3 V on the SoM.
- UART1 (pins 8/10) is configured as the Mendel Linux serial console by default.

Why it matters
- Edge TPU runs MobileNet v2 at ~400 FPS via TensorFlow Lite at low power.
- 40-pin Raspberry-Pi-style header exposes UART, I2C, SPI, PWM, and GPIO from the i.MX 8M.
- MIPI-DSI display and MIPI-CSI-2 camera connectors plus HDMI 2.0a and Gigabit Ethernet.
- ATECC608A cryptographic coprocessor for device identity and secure boot.
